Often Webster Technique is referred to as the "Breech Baby" turning technique. Although many babies will turn to a vertex (head down) position after one or more Webster Technique Chiropractic Adjustments, the technique does not actually turn the baby.
Webster Technique is a series of Chiropractic checks and adjustments that address the pelvic alignment of a woman during pregnancy. By ensuring proper alignment of the bones of the pelvis and even tension of the uterine ligaments, the baby can often move itself to the optimal position for labor and delivery.
Balancing the pelvis is really important during any pregnancy - not just when a late term breech baby is discovered. Proper alignment of the bones of the pelvis and uterine ligaments allows baby to have the optimal room to grow and develop as well as being in the best possible position for labor.
According to the Williams Obstetrics textbook there are three causes of dystocia (difficult labor): Abnormalities of the (1) expulsive forces, (2) maternal bony pelvis, or (3) presentation, position, or development of the fetus. Webster Technique throughout pregnancy can help ensure the bones of the pelvis are properly aligned and able to move as they are supposed to during labor (Therefore reducing the risk for reason 2). By allowing for the proper alignment of the pelvis, the position and presentation of the fetus are most likely to be optimal for labor (therefore reducing the risk for part of reason 3).
There are a great deal of factors that come together to determine how each labor progresses. Having Chiropractic care throughout pregnancy can help to increase the likelihood of having a positive labor and birth experience.
